Types of Pilot Licenses in Canada

Pilots in Canada must hold at least one of four Pilot Licenses required by the Government to operate an aircraft (each with their own level of benefit to the pilot).

  • Recreational Pilot Permit
  • Private Pilot’s Permit
  • Commercial Pilot’s Licence
  • Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence

Recreational Pilot Permit
Allows you to fly with your friends, and family for recreational purposes or for your own transportation needs; valid only in Canada.

Private Pilot’s Licence
Much like the Recreational Pilot Permit, the Private Pilot’s Licence allows you to fly with friends and family, for recreational and transportational purposes… however this license is recognized all over the world.

Commercial Pilot’s Licence
The Commercial Pilot License allows you to use your license to fly as a means of income, including larger Jets (not as captain), as well as flying with friends and family for recreational and transportation purposes.

Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence
This License is valid all over the world, and allows the pilot the capabilities of all other licenses combined, with the addition of Captain’s status on large commercial Airlines.
